User Needs Driven Product Design

  • Your product must solve a problem for the user
  • If your product is not useful it will not succeed
  • Observe how users go about solving this problem in other contexts
  • Design for natural behavior but give them better tools

Methodology

  • Set Clear Goals – communicate clearly across the team
  • Set success criteria and metrics – make sure they are actually measurable!
  • Investigate current state and user behavior to have a clear picture of before
  • Competitive Analysis – steal the best but even seeing someone do it badly is helpful
  • Take all inputs – you don’t need to apply all the feedback but listening to inputs from across the company will ensure you’ve considered as much as possible
